Reasons to Journal

January 3, 2018

I've been keeping a journal for the past 3-4 years + I honestly wish I had started sooner. 2018 is a great year to get started journaling! Here are a few reasons why I love to journal:

To vent. This is the #1 reason I started journaling a few years ago. When I would have a bad day or go through a rough time, I would sometimes feel like I had no one to talk to. I decided to pick up a pen + write all my thoughts out on paper. It's a great way to freely express your thoughts without fearing others opinions.

To record life's journey. In addition to writing about the bad times in life, I also use my journal to document the good times as well. Sometimes it's small things about how someone made me smile, or big accomplishments such as a new job. We won't always remember every good thing that happens to us, so it's nice to be able to go back and reflect.

To write out goals and plans. Until I write my goals down, they're just thoughts and ideas; but what's written is real. Once the words hit paper, it's like my goals are crystalized. To me, it's an awesome way to turn my thoughts into written ideas + also bring those ideas to life.

For self-improvement. This kind of ties into venting. I use my journal as a safe place to be completely, one hundred percent honest with myself. There are no limitations + it helps bring both awareness + clarity to what's going on in my life. It's a nice way to self reflect + self improve.

You don't have to write a novel everyday, or even spend a huge amount of time journaling. But sitting down + writing for even just 10-15 minutes a day is a great start! I encourage everyone to get into the habit, and watch the positive benefits flood into your life.
